We are thrilled to announce the launch of Midstack, a community and directory for midlife women on Substack.
has been on Substack for close to a year. In that time, Substack has become an important part of our HerStories Project community. We’ve published dozens of personal essays by women, achieved bestseller status, led workshops, taught a four-week workshop on growing a new Substack, hosted writing challenges, and built a solid network with other writers on Substack. We’ve also watched other networks and communities of Substacks grow and support other niches. We want to help midlife women find a community to help them grow and achieve their goals on Substack. And we want to make it easier to find great writing from women in this stage of life, especially from smaller Substacks that may feel lost in the crowd of bigger publications.
That’s why we are compiling a curated collection of Substacks for and by midlife women.
Not all of these writers in our Directory will write about midlife issues (aging, caretaking, menopause, health, etc) exclusively but they all could easily be placed in the “midlife” niche. In other words, being “midlife” is not just occasionally mentioned but is a core part of the identity of the Substack.
They will share different perspectives and experiences and do not necessarily reflect our (Jessica and Stephanie’s) point of view on a whole range of issues. We are not endorsing all of the opinions expressed in these Substacks.
The following criteria also must be met:
publish regularly (at least 1-2 essays/articles each month).
feature well-crafted, engaging essays and articles.
The primary target audience should be midlife women.
Since this is a curated list, not all publications that submit to the directory will be included. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
NOTE: We have a very open perspective on the age range of what is considered “midlife.” For us, it’s more of a state of mind, rather than a specific age range.
Interested in being included in the directory? We’d appreciate it if you subscribed to Midstack and then tell us about your publication!
