Wrote this one, "I Used to be Cursive, But Now I'm Chicken Scratch," a few months back, but my article this week was shared in Part 1 of the Reinvention Roundup, so I'm sharing what could be considered a companion piece. Anyone relate?!
Thank you so much for featuring my CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for my forthcoming book, WE BEGAN AGAIN: Collected Essays on Second Chances. I love Midstory and all that you do here on Substack. Thanks for bringing so many of us together. You’re teaching me how to build an even stronger and more impactful community.
This is such an amazing compilation, thank you so much for putting it together!! Today is my 42nd bday and I plan to take some time on this rainy day to read through all of these.
Nailed it! Hilarious and spot on. Currently road tripping. Reading in the car is nausea inducing, so I do it in small doses. Had to read the whole thing through. Worth the quease.
The fact that “Life goes on” is banal and brutal. I’m in central Texas and live in a neighborhood sporting green ribbons on the trees as kids go past on their bikes and scooters.
Thank you so much for featuring my piece and publication! What an honor and delight. Can't wait to check out all of these writers and their work (love L.A. Woman!).
Thanks for this next part of the 'Reinvention' roundup.
I felt compelled to share some of my flip-flopping journey to get clarity about some nebulous symptoms I've been having over the last 8 months. I finally have clarity and evidence...
The majority of caregivers are women, and we often start caring in our mid-forties. It's so easy to dismiss symptoms as 'only perimenopause' or less important compared to our loved one's needs.
I've written this with the hope that it motivates any other perimenopausal women, especially caregivers, to turn any nagging worries/fears over any symptoms into action.
'Do I have cancer?' Navigating to Clarity. A summary of my journey and recommendations
What a coincidence! The name of my newsletter is "Reinvention Adventures", and I talk about the (sometimes) inevitable process of reiventing ourselves upon a bumpy landing in Oldageland.
Here is a link to it, most of the essays are about reinvention:
This week's essay was about emotional/covert incest, which is something many of us have experienced our families of origin when parents lack appropriate boundaries with their children. In essence, the child is parentified and also made into the surrogate spouse of the parent.
Aging bodies can be so rude.

Loved this read, Leslie! Thank you for sharing this as a companion piece to the last one.
I recommend folks to read this and Leslie's last article in Part 1 of the Reinvention Roundup
Thank you so much for this. Truly!
Thank you for your honesty about a topic that I (and many others, I'm sure) find uncomfortable to accept. <3
Thank you for reading and responding! And I think it's pretty universal to take our bodies for granted until they break down.

Happy birthday!
Thank you!!
Who among us hasn't wanted Hemingway's advice on perimenopause?

(It's a humor piece. Is there anything funny about either Hemingway or perimenopause? Perhaps not. But perhaps.)
This is hilarious 😂
So Good!

"Worth the quease" is now my new author bio.
I love these essays ❤️ Thank you for compiling them.
I most recently wrote about the flooding here in Texas and allowing heartbreak to break me.

I wrote a piece about an intense and unsettling dream I had, and how it reminded me that I have found my People: https://treuwords.substack.com/p/dream-sequins
Yay! I'm tickled pink to be on this list of midlife women writers. Our stories are SO important. Speak up, speak out! Thanks Jessica.
