We all have different reasons for writing on Substack — as a creative outlet, as a way of building community around a book or a cause, as a tool for connecting with other writers. I love hearing about the diversity of reasons that we as midlife writers have for finding our way to Substack in our Midstack meetings and through our share threads.
As unique and fulfilling many of us find writing here, it goes without saying that many of us want to publish our writing beyond Substack.
In fact, in our decade at the HerStories Project of leading writing groups and courses for women, as well as publishing their writing in anthologies and more, one of the most common questions we get is: How can I get published — beyond my own website, blog, or (more recently) Substack?
We’re thrilled to share that guest instructors Cheryl Maguire and Gina Rich will host a 60-minute interactive workshop for us on Thursday, April 17th at 1 p.m., “How To Break Into Writing For National Publications.”
These two midlife writers will help both beginner and experienced writers sharpen ideas and increase the likelihood of landing those dream bylines. They’ll field the questions you’ve been wanting to ask and offer tips and strategies they wish they had known as beginners. They will also share examples of successful pitches and provide real-time feedback on selected pitches that attendees wish to share in the session.
Here are a few more writing workshops that we at the HerStories Project are hosting this spring in the coming weeks:
Ready To Write Your Memoir? Here’s How To Begin (April 21) with Liz Alterman
How To Find Your Path: Crafting a Neurodiverse Writing Practice (April 28) with Dr. Bailey Lang
An Introduction to Personal Essay Writing (May 9) with Natalie Serianni
