What Did You Write This Month?
A February Midstack Share Thread
I am very glad that February is almost over. It is not my favorite month. (Is February anyone’s favorite month?)
February has been a month of reflection for me. My regular job — doing college consulting work — is between admissions cycles. One of the things I’ve been reflecting about is the Midstack Directory.
Currently there are more than 450 Substack publications (!!!) written by midlife women either in the current Midstack library or waiting to be added to it. As I’ve mentioned before, I want this directory to be useful for both readers and writers, a source for midlife women to find writing that engages them and for Substack authors to find connection and collaboration. Right now — to be honest — it’s really not.
I want the Directory to be both organized and interactive.
So for months I’ve been exploring ways to create a new directory either within Substack or off Substack, using external platforms. I’ll keep you updated when I find the best solution.
In any case, stay tuned for updates from me in this space…. :)
In the meantime, please tell us what you’ve been writing this month.
I love our share threads. Please use this thread not only as a way of getting more readers for your writing but as a way of finding midlife writers that you might want to get to know more deeply.
Share a recent Post or Note below in the comments.
Write a brief introduction (a sentence or two about what the writing is about) to your post or note.
Post the link.
Read through other posts. Pick at least two or three with which you connect.
Restack, write a comment, or even cross-post. Even better, you can also subscribe to publications that interest you or follow other midlife writers.
Also, feel free to tell us if you have an idea or opportunity to collaborate with other Midstack writers. Are you looking for guest posts or interview or podcast guests? Are you hosting an event or a Substack roundup? Are you looking for book reviewers? Let us know!

My Substack spotlights people finding purpose in midlife and creating meaningful second acts. I cover a lot of career change stories, but I loved this interview from last week about a woman who returned to competitive gymnastics in her 40's: https://lorimacgregor.substack.com/p/flipping-and-flying-at-40
If you have a story that might be a fit (or know someone who does) please reach out!
I just published my first Substack essay — it's called The Friendship Gap, and it names something I think a lot of women have felt but haven't had language for: that quiet experience of being in friendships that look fine on the surface but feel subtly misaligned underneath. Not because anyone is being unkind. Because the structure was built for a different kind of exchange.
