For Pride month, I opened up my normal paid posts and shared the story of meeting my partner. Our origin was transformative for me. I've learned how to be safe to move into the darkness I could never explore under the hetero-patriarchy of my former marriage.
Maybe you should package the voodoo of your "slutty little dress." (But I have a feeling y'all would have fallen for each other without it.) Happy Pride all the time!
I went to read this post but the first sentence compelled me to read your last one. My mom died of lung cancer last fall; your hate mail to cigarettes echoed everything I experienced and feel about the menace. I'm sorry for your loss. It's a cruel way to leave this world.
Oh, I’m sorry you’ve experienced this too. I wish more people realized just how menacing cigarettes are. Thank you for reading and commenting. I appreciate it.
Hi all, I hope you're all finding moments of joy in-between the madness of our world. This week I wrote about "every emotion" I was feeling after the senate voted to approve this spending bill, as an empath and mother of adults with disabilities.
This is gonna sound pedantic, but I think (hope) I made it relatable enough. This week I wrote about the difference between explanatory and justifying reasons--you know when you say "I get it, but that's no excuse"? Here's what's going on.
This one is about the 4 pillars of longevity... something everyone should incorporate into their weekly routine, but especially those of us at midlife.
Happy 4th, all. This week I wrote about an incredible writer's retreat I recently attended in Santa Barbara, and how it got me thinking about mindful observation, wonder (and wonder's cousin, gratitude).
Have a great vacation, Jessica. Thanks for publishing this thread for us!
Continuing my post series about misconceptions and recalibrating our expectations. I published 'Why does pursuing happiness, make us unhappy?’ Appreciating the messiness of now, reflecting on joy. https://www.carermentor.com/p/why-does-pursuing-happiness-make
While it's focused on Caregivers, I'm sure this will resonate with anyone.
I've just started a new initiative, published today, to reformulate my caregiving insights into practical tools.
You may not have thought about what happens when you need to go to hospital in an emergency - the one thing I always advise is to prepare a Go Bag.
TBH I hate to paywall anything on my website-publication. However, I'd like to know who wants to use it and have a small barrier to prevent others from simply copying and pasting my ideas...(it's happened)
Hi all! I hope you have a great vacation, Jessica, and an ongoing thanks to you for supporting all of us with this weekly opportunity!
I wrote the flipside essay to one last week about going no contact with my mother. This essay is about becoming my own loving parent... https://nantepper.com/p/i-became-a-mother-late-in-life
I love this and identify with so much in this piece, Nan!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth! xo
I'm on summer hiatus, but wrote this note today. It feels important:

I'm glad you wrote this.
This week I wrote about MacArthur Park in LA. I write fiction and essays. I often write about California and its history, and these things are often a backdrop for my stories. https://open.substack.com/pub/leannebythesea/p/macarthur-park
My daughter lives in LA. Loved learning a little about her adopted home.
For a long time I was ashamed of being fired from my job.
I started writing about it anyway.
And I learned how many people around me also felt deep shame after being dismissed by employers—good, smart, hardworking people.
Over time I’ve realized I’m not responsible for an employer’s behavior, problems, failures.
And neither are you. Chin up. Keep going.

I loved your story. I'd be interested to hear more about that darkness if you're ever feeling up to writing about that.

My quirky mom, summer’s favorite fruit and a snack that could only make sense in a Gen X childhood. My piece this week connects these weird dots.

Great teaser about your piece. Love it!
Thank you!
I posted some of my favorite spreads from the creative journal I just finished. Journaling this way has really opened my creativity! https://open.substack.com/pub/treuwords/p/messy-meaningful-mine
I wrote a rant of sorts, My Big Little Life, that one generous reader called, "An ode to the middles, the moderates and the generally unsung."

Have a lovely vacation, Jessica, and thanks again for giving us a forum for sharing!
The small, quiet moments are the moments that make a life. Your writing about those moments is the sprinkling of glitter you leave behind.
This week I wrote about writing and reading (books) as the foundation of resistance.

I've shared a checklist of what to put into a go-bag for a patient, and for the caregiver, and a template for medical info. 3 PDFs to download with an 80% discount for an annual subscription. https://www.carermentor.com/p/tools-go-bags-for-hospital-emergencies?r=a9y7d&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Happy Sunday! I wasn't planning on posting, but a quote from the book, The Pivot Year, inspired a pause, a poem, and a promise--all surrounding WHO DO YOU INTEND TO BE? https://vanessanovissimowright.substack.com/p/who-do-you-intend-to-be
