The post I wrote this week, which will come out on Thursday, deals with similar themes. Sounds like this might be common for mid-life women--no surprise, right, now that we're in charge of all the things instead of our parents? Or that's the transition I'm realizing we're in now in my family.
Loved this post, Sara, as I have been re-thinking traditions for the past couple of years and trying new things. It's reassuring to know others are in this same frame of mind and time of life.
I had no idea this week's post about losing, well, damn near everything in perimenopause would be my most-commented ever! There is so much COLLECTIVE WISDOM and COMFORT from women in menopause. It makes me feel a little less insane to know that I'm not the only one experiencing these changes, especially the ones I wasn't expecting.
While I will be posting something new later today, I figured I would share my most recent post--about holding onto my own hard-won personal boundaries in a time of political upheaval.
Thank you so much for reading, Erica. The next several years are going to require ongoing mindfulness and intentionality, which are good habits to cultivate no matter what, but will be essential now. <3
I'm working on the next two weeks' posts, one about why I have an ambivalent relationship with gift giving (and just after I finished a draft, I read this great post-- https://matriarchyreport.substack.com/p/how-the-holidays-became-peak-gendered -- about a similar theme!), and one about what the point of pets is (because we're getting a puppy next Friday!) Then I'm going to take a two-week break to rest for the holidays. I'll probably write when I feel like it, but only if I feel like it. :)
I wrote this piece recently to honor the icky feeling I've termed Drunk Uncle Energy. Most of us have experienced this feeling, which might be triggered during this season in our nation's politics.
Cindy DiTiberio came back to a previous post she’d written about Fair Play because the comments from men on that post were crazy! I wrote a note that mentioned my experience and my sister’s with using Fair Play and how we divided chores/are currently dividing chores with our husbands. Cindy DiTiberio is also a twin like we are, so I enjoy her substack!
This week, I wrote about what happens when long-held holiday traditions no longer fit the life we’re living, now: https://theprettyintellectual.substack.com/p/keep-the-heart-let-go-of-the-habit

That's wonderful, Kristi! Congratulations!

I love this. I think it captures really well where I'm at too, though I don't think I would've excavated it that well or that clearly. <3

As the weather gets cold in Minnesota, my post this week was about the importance of touch (thinking cozy!). https://ericalucaststonestreet.substack.com/p/being-a-body-2?r=25crho

Last week I wrote about the people you lose in a divorce—and that children have a way of coming back around. https://atruelifebuilt.substack.com/p/life-after-loss

First let me say that I love that this Share Thread is a thing! What a great idea.
The article I'm sharing this week is about my sister and her heartbreaking brain combo of autism and mental illness. And it's about my ongoing struggle to support her while trying to survive her. https://open.substack.com/pub/distractedbyprettythings/p/not-my-sisters-keeper?r=43tgx8&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I'm nearing the end of the bookish autism memoir I'm sharing on Substack. This is the second-to-last chapter, the one where I realize I am neurodivergent. (It's long, but I read it aloud!) https://rebeccadmartin.substack.com/p/at-the-center-of-a-certain-turbulence
