I’m feeling pretty good about the fact that it’s almost May. April was a busy month for me — lots of traveling and family commitments. Also, here in western New York State April doesn’t really feel much like spring for much of the month. I’m looking forward to “real spring” and green leaves, flowers, and warmer temperatures (and finally no possibility of snow).
We’ve had a lot of new offerings at the HerStories Project — a full calendar of weekly writing workshops with guest instructors, a brand new membership community for midlife writers (MidCircle) — and I’ve stepped back a bit from Substack, and I’m okay with that. I’ve written before here on Midstack in this essay about how I am very much an “essentialist” — someone who gets easily overwhelmed by trying to do too many things at once and much prefers focusing on one or two areas more intensely.
Have you had times when you’ve stepped back from your regular routines on Substack?
I’d like to hear what you, dear midlife writer, has been up to:
Our monthly Midstack meetup will be this Wednesday, April 30th at 1 p.m. Register HERE.
Share what you’ve written the past week or two in the comments.
If you haven’t joined us for a Midstack meetup, we’d especially love to meet you and learn about your Substack. Our meetups are informal gatherings of midlife women writing on Substack. We introduce ourselves and our publications and share what’s working and what we’re struggling with.
💬 In the comments, share a Post or a Note that you think other midlife writers might connect with. Introduce the Post or Note with an explanation or summary, and then post the link. Make sure to restack, write a comment, or share another writer’s Post or Note.
Hey all! Hope you had a great week. This week, I posted an essay that got a lot of traction, mostly, I think because I intentionally tagged a lot of writer friends and asked them to spread the piece. It's something I've wanted to write about for a long time, but have been a little fearful, given the state of the country (government). It's about abortion. Specifically about an experience I had when I worked at Planned Parenthood about 20 years ago. I need to use my voice to speak out on this issue. Not hiding anymore. Bodily autonomy must be given back to us. If this post resonates, please restack? https://nantepper.com/p/her-very-first-time
I write humour. This week I wrote about my new sexy vacuum cleaner:
