Hello fellow women of a certain age! Pleased to make your acquaintance.

I write personal essays using family history as an organizing principle. Baffled by my rather emotionally distant and whacky family, I decided to write about them in order to better understand why I do the things I do. A common theme is the impact of Eastern European migration during the 20th century on me.

My most recent essay about my mother's china and what it meant to her can be found here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-198047788

Hi! Brand new here, just discovered you today! I think I qualify as midlife?? I turn 40 this year.

I’m a querying novelist (and hello to another querying writers!) and also write an essay series called Eliciting Esperance: Notes on Living that’s basically my public journal, but I try to include nuggets for the reader, it’s not just me yapping! I’ve written about everything from parenting to ways to help after natural disasters to my feelings after the killing of Renee Good. Most recently I wrote about my decision to get my first tattoo(s) at 39:

Can’t wait to discover other great writers here!

Hi, I’m Kristi. I write Almost Sated, where I explore body image, aging, belonging, and what it means to fully inhabit your life instead of waiting until you become “acceptable” enough to start living it.

This week’s essay is about hotel robes, beauty standards, and the seemingly insignificant ways larger bodies are reminded that they don’t quite fit the world around them, no matter how fit they might actually be. It also includes pretty pictures from my recent trip to the Catskills!

Hi everyone!

Last time, I posted my site The Memoirist, where I publish the stories of other writers. Today, I just published an essay on my personal site I'd like to share called "I Don't Need Men" about, well, not needing men...or booze...and the different person I am today than I was when I was young.

Hello! My Substack is focused on my experience and learnings about midlife women and how we engage with a system that isn’t designed to support us. I wrote something this week about rage at a system I’ve benefited from and the joy of having no expectations.

Hi all! I’m new and, wow, what a treasure trove of meaning and beauty you share here. Can’t wait to dive in!

As a cross-culture kid, I’m a lifelong in-betweener, and I look for and write about the good in the messy middles. Now especially as midlife brings new in-betweens to navigate, I’m leaning into lessons learned (and still learning).

This week I went back to an experience I’ve held dearly for 14 years … https://saythegood.substack.com/p/wild-horses-and-the-friends-we-need

Hello amazing women! First time here. I am a story keeper and I help others preserve their life stories. I find stories everywhere, often in objects that appear to be everyday items. My latest post on Storied Objects is about a set of objects connected through time!

Hello fellow midstackers!

I’m Shelley and I’ve been here a couple of months and starting to get the hang of it. My husband was a firefighter and passed away from occupational cancer. He is my inspiration for writing about intentional living, courage, and resilience and some fun things like travel and nature. I wrote a very raw post this week about what it feels like to go through grief in hopes to help others feel seen.

Hi! The Tea Library is a publication dedicated to navigating life’s changes. This week I wrote about the pull between my creative drive and my professional drive. Spoiler: I believe they can coexist.

I've learned that the best chapters of life often begin when "Plan A" falls apart.

Hola, I'm Janet DeVoogd.

After selling everything to begin a new life in Mexico, I write about adoption, life abroad, and the healing wisdom I've gathered along the way—from the medicine women of my Peace Corps jungle village to the unexpected detours that continue to reshape my life.

This week's posts revisit the moment our family began.

A quiet room lined with cribs in a Mexican orphanage, where we met the two babies who would eventually become our daughters.

Hello everyone,

Such a wonderful and inspiring place!

Today a piece that had been circling for some time finally settled, and was a bit surprising ... funny how that can happen!

It brings together acceptance of a new season of self and an unexpected messenger.

Thanks for the chance to share it here.

Thank you, Kimberlee. I'm happy to know that this resonated with you. It is such a powerful time, isn't it. Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to read my musings!

Newbie here! It’s been so gratifying to read other women’s Substacks here who view midlife as an opportunity for real change. I’ve been doing a Substack project this past year on lessening the effects of my Complex-PTSD. Every month, I try something that’s recommended and share how it’s going. This month I’m trying to focus on what I call the hardest room and that is having less reactivity with my own family using DBT. Here’s a link to my last post if you’re interested. https://charlottepence1.substack.com/p/the-hardest-room?r=2c6263&utm_medium=ios

This is starting to become my favorite part of the week. Thanks again Jessica for this space to share with one another!

This week I posted kind of a spunky piece for the menopausals in the group.
